Nagoshi no Harae Purification

Every year at the end of June, many shrines hold an ancient Japanese purification rite called ''Nagoshi no Harae''.

There is a small shrine very close from our Ryokan.
They held this ceremony on that day, so we took some guests to see it.

In this ceremony people atone for their sins in the first half of the year
and then pray for their health by walking through a tall Chinowa wreath
(made of a kind of rush called chigaya).

We hope they had a good experience of Japanese culture.

Lucky Taxi

This morning, a yasaka taxi with pattern of a four-leaf clover came to our ryokan. Most yasaka taxies are with a three-leaf clover. Taxies with a four-leaf clover are only 4 in Kyoto city. We cannot make a reservation, so this is very lucky. It is said that this taxi bring you a lucky. If you ride on it, you can get a special certificate and sticker. When youcome to Kyoto, let’s find yasaka taxi with pattern of a four-leaf clover. May this picture bring you good luck!
